DIY Bath Bomb

With Christmas right around the corner, I thought I would do a fun DIY that makes for a great gift and even one for yourself too. I don’t know about you but I’m obsessed with taking baths. What better way to take things up a notch and pamper yourself or a freind with a bath bomb. I find they can get pretty expensive if you buy them, so why not make them? They are super easy and cheap, oh and they make the house smell amazing as your making them. This recipe makes two pretty good-sized bath bombs, so you can double or triple this recipe depending how many you want to make. Sometimes I like to make different scented bath bombs because I have a million essential oils, the combinations are endless.

This simple recipe calls for:

  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup corn starch
  • 1/4 cup Epsom salt
  • 1/4 cup citric acid
  • 1/2 tbsp water
  • 3 teaspoons shea butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp essential oils of choice.
  • Food or candle coloring of choice
  • Bath bomb molds (found mine on Amazon but you could also use anything round like an ice cream scooper for example).


Step 1: Get a bowl and whisk all the dry ingredients together.

Step 2: In a separate bowl, melt the shea butter, takes about 45 seconds in the microwave. Then mix the rest of the wet ingredients.

Step 3: Slowly whisk in the wet ingredients because it will cause a science experiment if you mix too fast.


Step 4: Once all is mixed well, fill up the molds pretty tight and compress together. Then stick them in the freezer for 20 minutes or so to harden. Repeat until you have all made. They are pretty easy to pop out.


These are so fun! They make for a good treat to yourself. Or, you can wrap them up in your choice of wrapping, put them in a jar, or you can get cheap gift boxes with some tissue or paper shreds and there’s the perfect gift. Like I said, the combinations are endless for different scents depending what benefits you are wanting out of them.


My top three favorite are

  • Breath easy: peppermint, eucalyptus, and clary sage. (Featured in photos)
  • Relax: lavender, and chamomile.
  • Sensual: Jasmine, Sandalwood, rosehip, ylang ylang, and patchouli.
